CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced today it supplied tailor-made construction solutions and services for the new 4thMilitary Police Brigade complex in Northeast Mexico, in the State of Nuevo Leon.
These first-class facilities comprise 82 buildings erected to meet the housing, food, training, and operational needs of more than three thousand members of the Mexican Army.
With an investment of MXN$392 million, the complex encompasses general headquarters, three military police battalions, a special operations battalion, as well as parking lots, dormitories, warehouses, roads, dining rooms, workshops, a dog training unit, and a sports complex.
This is the first time that the Mexican government and civil society worked together under military command to build military facilities.
In order to complete the 58,000 square meters (approximately 624,000 square feet) required for this construction project, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), in charge of the work, developed a rigorous 365-day plan in which more than 1,000 military and civilian workers intensively labored seven days a week to meet the ambitious deadlines.
“We looked for a company capable to promptly supply services and materials at all times,” said General Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suarez, officer responsible for the project, “having such an ally helped us to be on time during the construction.”
In addition to nearly 2,900 tons of cement, approximately 30,800 cubic meters of concrete were supplied for this project. Additionally, through an agreement between SEDENA and CEMEX, a Block Auto Production Center was installed in which the 890,000 pieces of block, Adocreto, and thick brick partition used in these new facilities were produced.
A wastewater treatment plant and a solar photovoltaic field, along with the reforestation and regeneration of green spaces in the area, were included in the construction of the complex to promote its sustainability.
In the presence of the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, government and military authorities, businessmen, and representatives of civil society, the new complex was inaugurated earlier this year.
